FAQ Video

Margin shortfall occurs when client's disbursement amount is increased compared to his/her drawing power.

Clients shall periodically receive an Interim Valuation Report (IVR) which shall provide them information on the security value and loan value and separately the details of the shortfall, if any. For LAS Term Loan, client has to regularize the account within 7 working days of shortfall else NJ Capital will sell the securities to recover the fund.

For Example: Client has invested in the equity scheme of a mutual fund. The value of the mutual fund at the time of applying for the loan was Rs. 20 lakh. LAS Term Loan amount sanctioned @ 40% is Rs. 8 lakh. The client has taken full disbursement of Rs. 8 lakh. Now if the equity market falls 10% and the value of the pledged equity fund decreases from Rs. 20 lakh to Rs. 18 lakh. The revised drawing power will be 40% of Rs. 18 lakh i.e. Rs. 7,20,000 /-. The customer has either to pay Rs. 80,000 of loan or pledge additional securities of Rs. 2 lakh.

Note: If the investor pays the margin shortfall amount, then the shortfall amount will be adjusted against the principal amount of the client's loan and EMI will be revised according to the new principal amount. New EMI amount can be checked from repayment schedule letter.

Client has three options to recover the shortfall:

  1. You can make the payment by logging into your E-Wealth account (Module Path - Loans > Request ) or through the link as mentioned below.

  2. Refer below link to know how can a client make payment from registered bank account for margin shortfall.

How can a client repay a LAS Term Loan?

  3. Pledging additional securities from E Wealth Account > LAS > Loan Status Report > Initiate Pledge (Select & Pledge the securities and E Sign)

Consequences of not maintaining sufficient margin.

If the client is unable to offer additional securities or pay in the shortfall amount within the stipulated period of 7 (seven) days, then the securities, to the extent necessary for fulfilling the existing shortfall, shall be sold on the immediately following Business Day.

We advise the clients to ensure maintenance of sufficient margins so as to mitigate the risk of unplanned / untimely sale of securities which may hinder the investments from realizing their full potential.

Note: No prepayment charges shall be applied on the amount of loan prepaid due to margin shortfall.
